What are the benefits of providing external coaching rather than using a coach who is part of your organisation?
- People are more likely to be honest about their aspirations and opinions.
- The coach can provide an impartial, objective and new perspective.
- Individuals are more inclined to acknowledge their weaknesses to an outsider.
- The independent coach is likely to be trusted more than an insider who might be involved in the politics of the organisation.
What are the key differences between Coaches/ Trainers/ Mentors/ Consultants/ Counsellors/ Managers? - COACH - Empowers and supports the individual to take control, find their own solutions and accept responsibility for their own actions in confidence
- TRAINER - Deals with input of knowledge and skill
- MENTOR - an industry or subject matter expert who helps to carve a pathway through the organisation
- CONSULTANT - Diagnoses and recommends solutions to organisations at a macro level on strategic and cultural issues
- COUNSELLOR - Fixes people without the strengths or inner resources to do so themselves
- MANAGER - Sets direction, manages process and performance. (Confidentiality is not always possible in this relationship).
Can I afford to Coach my Team? Can you afford not to do it? What are the key applications of coaching? There are many highly effective applications but introducing a coaching culture into an organisation is by far the most effective. A coaching culture encourages openness, honesty, commitment and challenge and helps people to focus and narrow down what they do. It helps them find the skills they didn't know they had and use them effectively without providing ready-made solutions.
